winery of the month | Leah Jorgensen

Our Winery of the Month for February is Leah Jorgensen, Oregon’s premier Cabernet Franc producer. A 20+ year wine industry veteran making expressive interpretations of France’s Loire Valley wines centered around Cabernet Franc grown in Southern Oregon.

wines:

2020 CABERNET FRANC- "FLAGSHIP RED WINE"

The aromatics on this wine are bright and lifted with pretty notes of ripe cherry, violets, vanilla, bourbon, and cherry tobacco. The palate is smooth with tons of ripe fruit - cherry, boysenberry, lingonberry jam with a finish of crushed herbs and smoky black tea.

2020 ROSÉ OF CABERNET FRANC

Much like the classic quenching rosé wines from France’s Loire Valley, this dry and slightly savory Southern Oregon gem starts off bright, tart and citrusy with persistent pink grapefruit and then meanders into herbal and umami flavors with a little bit of texture on the finish. It’s a delightfully rounded rosé bursting with wonderful aromatics - at first like walking into a garden with fresh, sweet heliotrope, tea rose and sweet pea; then, gets whimsical with a whirl of cotton candy, marshmallow and marzipan notes; finally lingering with fresh fruit, scents of pink or star ruby grapefruit.

about:

In 2004, Leah made her way out west to her father’s home state of Oregon to attend a highly coveted wine industry event – Oregon Pinot Camp .  Within hours of her visit in the Willamette Valley, she found a way back to the Pacific Northwest to work where her great-grandparents had settled and farmed.  Her grandfather’s side came to Oregon by way of Denmark and her grandmother’s side from Norway.  Both lines of her family had been farm owners and workers in Scandinavia long before coming to America in the late 1800s.  Both families lived and worked on farms in Montana, Wisconsin, Minnesota, and South Dakota, prior to Oregon.

Leah’s handcrafted, small-lot, minimal-intervention Cabernet Franc wines – and other rare gems including Malbec and Gamay Noir are stunning and graceful - delicious and exceptional now and will continue to evolve in the bottle with time.  All limited production.
