winery of the month | Cramoisi Vineyard

Our Winery of the Month for July is Cramoisi Vineyard. The name, Cramoisi reflects the color, beauty and complexity of wines born from red volcanic soils of their estate vineyard. Cramoisi Vineyard is organically and biodynamically farmed. Every bottle honors and delivers their passion, from soil to glass.

Owners Sofia and Ryan will be pouring samples during Local’s Night on the 11th, which will pair perfectly with the menu we’re serving for the occasion.

about the winery:

Cramoisi Vineyard is farmed Biodynamically and organic, boutique wines with a small production of 1000 cases a year. They grow Pinot noir and Chardonnay. They make Rosé wine of Pinot noir grapes, 3 – 4 different Pinot noirs, Blanc de Noirs of Pinot noir grapes and a field blend Chardonnay.

Eugene native Ryan McKay and Sofía Torres McKay (from Mexico City) met in San Francisco in 2001, started dating in 2002, Ryan shared his passion for Oregon Pinot noir, the land and community in Oregon and Sofia fell in love with Ryan and Oregon Pinots. The couple, married in 2005, eventually traveled to Oregon wine country, and searched for the perfect site to call their own.

In 2011, they bought 10 acres on Worden Hill Road in the Dundee Hills AVA, after selling a house in British Columbia — in a favorable market. In 2012, they began planting at an elevation of 500 to 600 feet. 6.0 acres are planted to Pinot Noir, including the rare clone 122 from Vosne-Romanée, a Grand Cru vineyard in Burgundy; and almost one acre to Chardonnay. Inspired by the crimson clover covering the property in spring, the couple named the vineyard, Cramoisi, which translates to “crimson” in French.

While Ryan continues working his day job and helps when possible, Sofia left her IT sales career in 2017 to devote all her efforts to the venture, She is one of the few Hispanic vineyard owners in the Willamette Valley.
