Our Winery of the Month for May is Winderlea, our friends from the Dundee Hills, who produce Pinot noir, Chardonnay, Pinot blanc, Rosé of Pinot noir and a tiny amount of Syrah. We will be featuring two of their wines by the glass all month long.
We will be hosting a Six Feet Apart Tasting of their wine at Red Hills Market on FRIDAY, MAY 14 FROM 12 - 3 PM
about the winery:
“Winderlea is a boutique winery that specializes in the limited production of Pinot noir and Chardonnay. Spouses Bill Sweat and Donna Morris moved to Oregon in 2006 and purchased a legendary 20 acre vineyard planted in the 1970s on the Red Hills bench in the Dundee Hills. Originally known as the Dundee Hills Vineyard, today it is Winderlea, a name derived from combining the words “wind” and “lea” meaning field or meadow.
As lovers of wines that speak to the characteristics of each vineyard site, winemaking at Winderlea is focused and minimalist and adheres to all Demeter Biodynamic® practices. Their goal is to create wine that is elegant, restrained, and balanced.”
tasting notes:
2017 Chardonnay
The 2017 Chardonnay displays all the nuance we celebrate in a cooler, more restrained vintage. The nose is abundant and bright- pie crust and toasted almond mix with lime zest and plumeria, which both transition to the palate. Flavors of stone fruit and blood orange add breadth while marzipan and a hint of rosemary add depth to this well-structured and balanced beauty.
2018 Pinot Noir
An homage to our neighbors and friends, the Dundee Hills Vineyards Pinot noir carries the original name of our estate and is an approachable and drinkable Pinot, focused and full, with firm but integrated tannins. The color is dense and penetrating blackberry, and the aromatics practically burst from the glass. There is ample potential for cellaring but it is so tasty now, it might not last that long.
